Mamun Khan Chishty new SP in  Barguna

Barguna Sadar  Correspondent

K M A Mamun Khan Chishty has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) for Barguna district, according to a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Prior to this assignment, Chishty served as the Superintendent of Police for the Special Response Battalion (SRB), a specialized unit of Bangladesh Police.

Under the same notification, the outgoing SP of Barguna, Md. Kudrat-E-Khuda, has been transferred to serve as the Superintendent of Police for Jamalpur district, while Jamalpur's SP, Mst. Farhana Yasmin, has been posted to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Chishty brings extensive field experience in crime suppression and intelligence-led operations, having previously functioned as the SP and Media Officer for SRB-12. During his tenure with the unit, SRB-12 executed high-profile drives, including recent raids across Sirajganj and Pabna districts following the surrender of 65 extremists from Sirajganj, Pabna, and Rajbari districts on November 1.

On Wednesday,  an SRB-12 operational team under Chishty's direction recovered 103 local and foreign firearms, 1,136 rounds of live ammunition, 15 magazines, 95 sharp weapons, and eight walkie-talkie sets from Tarash, Ullapara, and Salanga in Sirajganj, as well as Santhia and Ataikula in Pabna.

Local civil society and residents of Barguna expressed optimism that the newly appointed Police SP will leverage his operational background to curb illicit narcotics, gang activity, juvenile crime, and illegal arms trade, while strengthening public safety.
