The body of Md. Lokman Hossain (28), a mason who went missing after slipping and falling into the Dhaleshwari River at Munshiganj city's launch terminal, was recovered approximately 30 hours later by a diving team.
The Fire Service diving team recovered his body from the Dhaleshwari River in the Mollarchar area, adjacent to Munshiganj city, around 7:30 AM on Tuesday. The body was later handed over to his relatives.
The deceased, Lokman Hossain, was the son of the late Rafiqul Islam from Dewanpur village in Tazumuddin Upazila, Bhola district. He was a mason by profession and worked in Dhaka.
It is reported that at 2:30 AM on Sunday night, a launch named Farhan-3, traveling from Monpura to Dhaka, stopped at the Munshiganj launch terminal. Lokman was pacing on the terminal's pontoon. He slipped and fell into the water while trying to board the launch before it departed. He had been missing in the river ever since.
Lokman Hossain was traveling to Dhaka with his wife Ripa Akter and cousins Shihab and Sohel. Upon reaching the terminal, Lokman suddenly slipped and fell into the river while helping his travel companion Sohel disembark.
His cousin Shihab stated that Lokman was assisting Sohel from behind when his foot slipped, and he instantly fell into the river. Despite extensive searching, he could not be found afterward.
Immediately after the accident, a call was made to the national emergency service 999 for assistance. Subsequently, the Fire Service, BIWTA, and Naval Police jointly launched a rescue operation. No trace was found throughout Monday, increasing anxiety among relatives. Finally, his body was recovered from the Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj on Tuesday morning. A pall of gloom has descended upon the family and the entire area due to this incident.
Md. Shafiqul Islam, Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, stated that emphasis is being placed on increasing vigilance and strengthening safety measures for river travel to avoid such accidents in the future. He added, "We continued the rescue operation since he went missing. We recovered the body and handed it over to the Naval Police. They then handed the body over to the relatives."
