
Polythene shopping bags seized, fines imposed in N’ganj

The Department of Environment conducted a raid in the Jalkuri area of Fatullah, Narayanganj, to curb the use and marketing of banned polythene shopping bags. During the operation, a mobile court fined a business named Mim Enterprise Tk 4,000 for selling and displaying the banned polythene bags. Authorities also seized 80 kilograms of the illegal polythene bags from the premises.
The raid was led by Executive Magistrate Nazmul Huda from the Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday afternoon. Officials and staff from both the police and the Department of Environment were present during the operation. Later that day, the Deputy Director of the Narayanganj office of the Department of Environment, A.H.M. Rashed, confirmed the incident.
Assistant Director Md. Rasel Mahmud of the Department of Environment’s Narayanganj district office provided the prosecution in the case.
Deputy Director A.H.M. Rashed stated that the raid was conducted under the regulations of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995, specifically under section 6A and the penalty clause 15(4)(b), for the use and marketing of banned polythene shopping bags. As a result, the polythene bags were seized and a fine was imposed. He also mentioned that such operations would continue in the future.
