A press conference was held in Kalia on Tuesday morning  protesting what was described as a conspiracy against Narail District BNP President Bishwas Jahangir Alam, and the vandalism of the Kalia Upazila Chhatra Dal office  at  Kalia Dak Bungalow grounds with the participation of local BNP leaders and members of its affiliated bodies.

In a written statement, Kalia Upazila BNP General Secretary Wahiduzzaman Milu said that on May 18, unidentified miscreants attacked BNP Executive Committee Member Abdul Latif Samrat at Jogania Bazar in Naragati Thana. Although details of the incident were unclear, the news spread via Facebook, he said.

Following the incident, Kalia Poura BNP General Secretary Selim Reza Yusuf held a press conference where he reportedly made allegations against district BNP President Bishwas Jahangir Alam. Milu dismissed these claims as false and politically motivated.

Milu further stated that Jahangir Alam was in Dhaka on May 17 after attending a BNP rally in Khulna and left for abroad on May 18 for business purposes. “Therefore, any attempt to link him to the incident is nothing but a deliberate smear campaign,” he said, alleging that a vested group was trying to divide the party for personal or political gain.

Speakers at the press conference also alleged that unknown attackers vandalized the Chhatra Dal office in Kalia later that same evening. They condemned the incident and said such actions only worsen the political climate and sow confusion within the organization.

The BNP leaders called for party unity and urged central BNP leadership to investigate the alleged conspiracy and take legal action against those responsible.

Rakibuzzaman Pappu, Member Secretary Sardar Tarikul Islam, Poura BNP Vice President Molla Jewel Rana, and Kalia Bazar Business Association President Sheikh Jahangir Alam were present.
