Satkhira Correspondent
The people of Kadamkhali-Shashadanga area have staged a protest and formed a human chain demanding the immediate repair of the road connecting Ellarchar in Satkhira Sadar Upazila to Parulia in Debhata Upazila. The program was held under the banner of local residents on Tuesday afternoon.
Niranjan Mondal, a former teacher from Kadamkhali village in Debhata upazila, said that the people of Kadamkhali, Shashadanga and surrounding areas of Kulia union in Debhata upazila of Satkhira district are suffering due to the road from Bagmari Bridge to Shashadanga collapsing towards the canal. As a result, hundreds of people, various vehicles and ambulances carrying patients, especially students, elderly, women and patients, who travel on this road every day, are facing extreme hardship. As a result, a kind of public anger has arisen. The solution to this is to repair the road quickly.
Sabita Rani, a housewife from Kadamkhali village, said that due to this condition of the road, major accidents can happen at any time. It is creating serious obstacles in the daily activities of the local people, transportation of agricultural products, medical treatment and education. The situation is becoming more complicated as the monsoon season approaches. If repairs are not done quickly now, the road will completely collapse into the Kolkata Canal and repairing it later will cost many times more. Therefore, it is necessary to repair it now.
Bhadrakant Bachar, Mohammad Mostafa Molya, Abdus Sattar, Bijan Bachar, Amal Sarkar, Salek Reza, Alamgir Hossain, Sabita Rani, Md. Abdullah, Kanailal Sarkar, Aziz Morol, Mahadev Sarkar, Binda Sarkar, Razzak Gazi and Jiten Sarkar spoke at the protest and human chain program chaired by senior citizen leader and teacher Niranjan Mondal.
Md. Abdullah of Shashadanga village said, due to the dam in another canal connected to the Kolkata Canal, an abnormal tide was created on this road, which collapsed the road connecting three upazilas including Satkhira Sadar, Debhata and Asashuni. Fortunately, when the news was circulated in the media, RAB and the administration intervened directly and removed the dam, ensuring public interest. But the roads that collapsed due to that erosion are now gradually falling into full erosion. Now, the rapid intervention of LGED and the Water Development Board is demanding the lives of people from all walks of life to save the road.
