Restoring springs essential to secure sustainable water sources in CHT : Minister Saching Prue

Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Saching Prue MP emphasized that restoring and conserving natural springs (springsheds) is critical to addressing the acute water scarcity facing ethnic communities in the Hill Tracts.
The Minister made the statement on Wednesday afternoon, during a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) at his Bangladesh Secretariat office.
"Water scarcity remains one of the most pressing challenges in the Chittagong Hill Tracts," Minister Saching Prue stated. "We must revitalize natural springs and establish reliable, safe drinking water sources for mountain communities by scaling up successful methodologies demonstrated through ICIMOD initiatives."
He welcomed ICIMOD's 'HI-CAS' (Resilient Mountain Solutions in the Hindu Kush Himalaya) project for its focus on springshed management and climate adaptation.
The ICIMOD delegation included Country Focal Mahmud Al Haq Patwary, HI-CAS Senior Project Coordinator Jessica Emily Fullwood, and Country Project Officer Md. Toufiqul Islam. CHT Affairs Ministry Additional Secretary Md. Monirul Islam and Private Secretary (Deputy Secretary) Mohammad Rashedul Haque were also present.
