Vigilant Ansar members intercept undeclared fruit-laden truck at Benapole Port, averting Tk 5 lakh tax evasion

On-duty Ansar members intercepted a fruit-carrying truck attempting to exit the Benapole Land Port with undeclared goods, thwarting an estimated revenue evasion of Tk 5 lakh.
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM on Tuesday at the port's primary security gate. Ansar personnel stationed at the checkpost grew suspicious of the vehicle and signaled it to stop. Upon inspecting the accompanying import documents and physical cargo, the officers discovered significant discrepancies between the declared items and the actual goods being transported.
While the import declaration specified malta, physical verification revealed that the shipment contained approximately 200 cartons of higher-duty oranges imported from India.
Customs officials were immediately notified and dispatched to the site to verify the documentation and evaluate the seized shipment. Initial assessments indicate that the false declaration was intended to evade nearly Tk 5 lakh in government import duties and revenue taxes.
The truck and its confiscated cargo were subsequently transferred to Customs House authorities for procedural appraisal and legal proceedings.
The team of Ansar personnel involved in the interception included PC Arman Ali, APC Rabiul Islam, and Ansar members Golam Panchatan, Bidyut Kumar, Rafiqul Islam, and Debashish Roy.
