Veteran journalist Alamgir Mohiuddin, a permanent member of the National Press Club and former editor of the daily Nayadiganta and The New Nation  is no more. 
 
He passed away at 1.30 pm on Saturday  while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaydi rajiun). He was 84 years old. He is survived by two daughters and numerous relatives, colleagues and admirers.

Alamgir Mohiuddin was born on 1 March 1942 in a prominent Muslim family in Natore district. He studied at Nazim Uddin High School in Chanchkoir. Later, he obtained his Higher Secondary from Rajshahi College and his Bachelor's degree from the English Department of Rajshahi University. He started journalism on 1 February 1959.

The funeral of the deceased will be held at the Agricultural Laboratories Jame Mosque in Manipuripara on Saturday after Maghrib. After the funeral, he will be buried at the Rayerbazar Intellectual Graveyard.

National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz and General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan have expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Alamgir Mohiuddin. In a statement, the leaders prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased and extended their deepest condolences to his bereaved family members.
