Teenager held captive for 5 months, raped, one arrested in Hatiya

Law enforcement agencies have arrested a young man for abducting and raping a teenage girl from Hatiya, an isolated island in Noakhali's upazila.
The arrested person is Jahed Hasan (37), son of Jahangir Alam of Jahed's house in Charafkir village, ward number 9 of Sonadia union of the upazila.
RAB-11, CPC-3 Company Commander (Acting) Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar Kundu confirmed the matter in a press release on Saturday night. Earlier, on the same day, at around 7:15 pm, RAB-11 and RAB-7 arrested him in a joint operation at Sankotala Bazar in Bhaktapur Union of Fatikchhari, Chittagong.
The press release said that Zahed, a father of three, is the neighbor of the victim girl. On January 6, at around 7 am, he went to the paddy drying field with the victim's house. At that time, Zahed sprayed anesthetic in the girl's face in the dense fog and kidnapped her and took her behind Golaipa's shop at the head of Kaptai Road in Chittagong. He kept her there and raped her against her will day after day. When the victim resisted the accused from raping her, the accused injured her right elbow with a sharp knife. In this way, he continued to rape her for months.
The press release further states, "In addition, the accused tried to kill the girl by throwing her into the river and under a train. After the victim became 3 months pregnant due to prolonged rape, he forcibly gave her medicine to abort and kill the unborn child." The accused left the victim near her house at around 1 pm on June 18.
RAB-11, CPC-3 Company Commander (Acting) Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar Kundu further said that immediately after the incident, the victim's parents filed a general diary (GD) at Hatia Police Station. Then they filed a case in the court. On the court's order, a case was registered against three people under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act at Hatia Police Station.
The arrested accused has been handed over to Hathazari Police Station for further legal action.
