Three people, including a woman, were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a covered van in Kaliakair, Gazipur.

The accident took place on Saturday  afternoon in the Chairman Bazar area along the Kaliakair-Fulbaria road.

Sajib Mia, a local eyewitness, said the head-on collision occurred between a Fulbaria-bound CNG auto-rickshaw and a covered van traveling toward Maona Chowrasta. The front section of the CNG auto-rickshaw was completely crushed, leaving three people, including a woman, dead on the spot and three others injured. Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to the Upazila Health Complex.

Following the crash, traffic on the Fulbaria-Maona road was suspended for nearly an hour, creating long tailbacks on both sides. Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene and restored normal traffic flow with the help of locals by removing the wrecked vehicles.

Jafar Ali Khan, OC  of Konabari Highway Police Station, stated that after receiving the report, police reached the spot, cleared the vehicles from the road, and recovered the bodies. The identities of the victims could not be immediately confirmed.

Confirming the incident, Kaliakair Police Station OC Shahidul Islam said the victims were rescued and taken to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex after the accident.

The attending doctor at the emergency department initially declared two people dead, and another person passed away later. Efforts are underway to identify the victims.
