
UP member among 3 gamblers held from gambling Den in Sundarganj

Police arrested three individuals, including a Union Parishad (UP) member, from a secret gambling den set up inside a bamboo grove in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha.l on Monday night in the Secha (Mondolpara) area of Chandipur Union.
The arrestees are: Pushpo Chandra Das (40), member of Ward 6 of Shripur Union Parishad and son of the late Prafulla Chandra Das of Bhelaray (Majhipara) village; Samiul Islam (40), son of Jobed Ali of South Secha (Chatinamari) village; and Shahidul Islam (45), son of the late Hanif Uddin of Secha (Mondolpara) village.
According to police sources, they received a tip-off that a gambling session was taking place behind the house of Aminul Islam Ghotok in a bamboo grove in Secha (Mondolpara), Chandipur Union. Acting on the information, Sub-Inspector (SI) Dipak Chandra Roy of Konchibari Police Outpost conducted a raid with his team. Sensing the presence of law enforcement, the gamblers attempted to flee. However, three were caught red-handed. Police also seized Tk 5,300 in cash and gambling materials from the scene.
OC of Sundarganj Police Station, Abdul Hakim Azad, said, a regular case has been filed against the accused under Sections 3 and 4 of the Gambling Act of 1867.
