
UPDF - Democratic groups clash in Khagrachhari

Two people were injured in a clash between the two regional organizations, United Democratic Front (UPDF) and UPDF (Democratic), in Khagrachari over opposing programs.
The incident occurred around noon on Tuesday when the two sides faced each other at Chengi Square intersection.
It is learned that leaders and activists supported by the United Democratic Front UPDF (Prosit Group) took out a protest procession from the Upazila Parishad premises to demand a solution to the growing problems of the hills and equal rights in a democratic manner. On the other hand, UPDF (Democratic) took out a joyous procession to celebrate the anniversary of the fall of the dictatorship at Chengi Square intersection.
When the processions of the two sides came face to face, a clash broke out.
Locals said that there was an exchange of gunfire and chase between the two sides.
However, they are accusing each other of chasing each other. Organizer Angya Marma alleged that a woman supported by the United Democratic Front was shot and two others were injured. Amar Jyoti Chakma, organizing secretary of the UPDF Democratic Central Committee, said that a UPDF-affiliated group attacked the peaceful procession. However, he said that no gunfire was exchanged.
Additional police were deployed at this time.
The police said that the situation was brought under control with the relentless efforts of law enforcement members.
Khagrachari Sadar Police Station OC Abdul Baten Mridha said, there was a chase between the two sides in the face-to-face clash. However, no evidence of any exchange of gunfire was found. The police are on alert to control the situation at all times.
