We have no dispute with any political party : All looted weapons to be recovered before election : Home Adviser
Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj
To ensure a fair and peaceful upcoming election, law enforcement agencies are actively working to recover all illegal weapons across the country, including those looted during the recent mass uprising, said Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Interim Government on Home Affairs.
“We haven't yet been able to recover all the weapons, but we’re trying. The remaining ones will be recovered before the election,” he stated, urging everyone’s cooperation.
He added, “Political parties are the main stakeholders in the election. They need to play a key role. Narayanganj has adequate logistic support. However, if any additional support is needed, we will ensure that it’s provided.”
He made these remarks on Saturday while speaking to journalists after visiting the Narayanganj Police Lines. Prior to that, he visited the RAB-11 Headquarters.
The Home Affairs Adviser emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, saying, “If journalists always speak the truth, there will be no room for confusion. The Home Ministry only shares verified information, which helps keep the public informed. Of course, there will always be some vested interests trying to create problems.”
“We have no conflict with any political party. Our duty is to maintain law and order. It’s the politicians' job to earn votes from the people. The media today is in a strong position and can report from almost anywhere with ease,” he added.
Regarding the progress of the July Uprising cases, he said, “Investigations into many of the cases have already started. However, a problem has arisen because a large number of people were named as suspects indiscriminately. This has caused some delay in the investigation process. We are ensuring that innocent individuals are not harassed and that the chargesheets are based on fair and accurate investigations.”
Among those present during the visit were RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman, Dhaka Range DIG of Police Rezaul Karim Mallik, Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Pratyush Majumder, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration & Finance) Tasmin Akter, Additional SP (Crime & Operations) Tarek Al Mehedi, Additional SP (DSB) Israt Jahan, and other officials from different levels of administration.
