The Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Health at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) organized a workshop on Thursday  to discuss the introduction of a PhD program in Theriogenology  at the universitys old auditorium at 11:00 AM.

The core objective of launching this PhD program is to enhance livestock reproductive efficiency, thereby boosting the production of milk, meat, and animal-based products. Theriogenology, the science of animal reproduction and associated diseases, plays a critical role in developing skilled researchers, advancing reproductive technologies, and strengthening scientific research in the livestock sector.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman attended as the chief guest. The session was chaired by Dean of Graduate Studies Prof. Dr. Md. Ramiz Uddin Miah, with Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Also present were deans, directors, faculty members and students from GAU, along with invited experts from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU).

The event featured a comprehensive presentation by Prof. Dr. A. N. M. Aminoor Rahman, Head of the Department, who outlined the course layout, objectives, and academic framework of the proposed PhD program. Following the presentation, a lively open-floor discussion was held, where experts shared valuable feedback on curriculum design, academic quality, and research enhancement. In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor termed the initiative timely and commendable, emphasizing its potential to elevate the universitys academic and research standards to international levels. He reiterated the administrations full support and expressed hope for the programs swift implementation. Notably, since introducing the Masters program in 2016, the department has successfully graduated 24 students, with 8 currently enrolled.

The proposed PhD in Theriogenology is expected to significantly contribute to the sustainable growth of the livestock sector and, in turn, to the national economy.
