Local residents have been suffering due to waterlogging for a long time in Uttarpara, Ward No. 1 of Monakhali Union of Mujibnagar Upazila of Meherpur.
As a vast area from Hamid Malitha's house to the main road is submerged in water, about fifty families are practically stranded. Some local residents, on condition of anonymity, said that the waterlogging has become more pronounced due to the lack of adequate water drainage on both sides during the construction of the Herringbone (HBB) road.
They alleged that the entire locality is suffering due to the mismanagement and irregularities of a few people. In this situation, the localities have demanded urgent intervention of the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and the concerned authorities to take measures to drain the water quickly and provide a permanent solution.
Local UP member Habibur Rahman said, "The condition of the area is really bad. However, for a permanent solution, an effective connection must be established with the drain on the western side of the main road that merges with the river. Otherwise, it will not be possible to eliminate the problem of waterlogging."
