A 7-storey building has collapsed in Fatikchhari. 21 families are at risk. Upon receiving the news, the UNO Fatikchhari has formed a 5-member investigation committee.
Locals said that a few days ago, there was a gap like a hand between the two buildings. But now the 7-storey building is leaning on the other. Abdul Khalek built the building on 31st century land on BS 7855 in the municipal headquarters. There is a risk of a major accident if the risky building collapses at any moment.
According to sources, in 2019, the Fatikchhari Municipality approved a 6-storey building. But the building owner violated the rules and built a 7-storey building. Since 2021, 21 families have been living there on rent.
Rajib Barua, acting engineer of Fatikchhari Municipality, said, "The building has permission for 6 floors. Later, the owner illegally built a 7th floor."
Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) engineer Sanjay Debnath said, "The building's tilting is part of the error. No one can avoid responsibility for it. Hopefully, the local administration will take action."
Fatikchhari UNO Md. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said, "I have visited the scene. Since the matter is sensitive, a five-member investigation committee has been formed in this regard. Further legal action will be taken after receiving the committee's report."
