Afforestation vital for protecting environment, biodiversity: State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam

Emphasizing the importance of expanding green cover, State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, MP, has stated that extensive afforestation plays a vital role in environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change.
He made the remarks as the chief guest during a mass sapling planting drive under a major afforestation program at Hasura Mouza in Hajinagar Union under Niamatpur Upazila of Naogaon on Friday.
Under the initiative, approximately 20,000 saplings of 15 species were planted along a 20-kilometer strip plantation stretching across both banks of the local canal, spanning from Crossdrum to the Beltree area.
Speaking at the event, the State Minister noted that planned afforestation must be expanded nationwide to maintain ecological balance. He highlighted that planting trees along canals, roadsides, and open spaces not only improves the local environment but also prevents soil erosion and preserves natural habitats for wildlife
Senior officials from the Forest Department, local administration representatives, journalists, and community leaders were present during the inauguration.
