Bangladesh reports another dengue death with 750 hospitalised in a day

Bangladesh has recorded one more death from dengue in a 24-hour count, taking this year’s official toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 77.
Hospitals across the country admitted 750 fresh patients during the period, pushing total hospitalisations from the illness to 27,022.
Of the new patients, 61 were admitted in hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation and 47 in Dhaka South. Another 122 were admitted outside the two city corporations, the Directorate General of Health Services said.
Outside Dhaka, Barishal Division recorded 121 admissions, Chattogram 96, Khulna 173, Mymensingh 56, Rajshahi 57, Rangpur 14 and Sylhet three.
The health directorate has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
Cases peaked in 2023, with 321,179 hospitalised and 1,705 deaths, the highest on record.
Last year, more than 400 people died of dengue, with around 102,000 cases confirmed nationwide.
