A 53-member new executive committee of the Rupganj Press Club has been formed with Khalil Sikder of Inqilab and BanglaVision as President and Md Alam Hossain of News24 as General Secretary.

The new committee was announced on Thursday afternoon at the Rupganj Press Club office in the presence of all members.

Among the newly appointed office-bearers, Shahidullah Gazi of Asian TV and A H Milon of Agamir Shomoy have been made Senior Vice-Presidents, while S M Shahadat of Star News and Ashikur Rahman Hannan of GTV have been appointed Vice-Presidents.

Sharif Ahmed Liton of Bijoy TV and Ziaur Rashed of Samakal have been appointed Joint General Secretaries, while Rashedul Islam of Shomoyer Alo has also been included in the executive body.

Jahangir Alam Hanif of Bangladesh Pratidin has been appointed Organising Secretary, with Sohel Kiran of Bangla TV as Assistant Organising Secretary.

Saiful Islam of Green TV and Pratidiner Bangladesh has been appointed Finance Secretary. Shakil Ahmed of NTV has been appointed Sports, Literature and Cultural Affairs Secretary, while Al-Amin of Islamic TV has been made Assistant Secretary for the same portfolio.

Jahangir Mahmud of Kalbela has been appointed Information and Technology Affairs Secretary, while senior lawyer Majedul Haque Molla Sohel has been appointed Legal and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary.

Shahidul Karim Biplob of Amader Shomoy has been appointed Office Secretary and Rubel Sikder of Dainik Khoborer Kagoj has been made Publicity Secretary. Poonam Ferdous of Dainik Probhat has been appointed Women's Affairs Secretary.

The executive members include Ruhul Amin of Country Today, Manzurul Kabir Babu of News Bangladesh, Saidur Rahman of CNN Bangla, Farhadul Kabir of Bhorer Pata, Maksudul Haque Tushar of Ajker Bangla and Mehedi Hasan Farhad of Narayanganj Post.

An eight-member advisory council has also been included in the newly formed full committee.

Speaking after the formation of the committee, newly elected President Khalil Sikder said the new leadership would make its utmost efforts to discharge the responsibilities entrusted to it.

“We will make our best efforts to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to us. The new committee will play an important role in the development and modernization of the Rupganj Press Club,” he said.

He said the committee plans to take initiatives to construct a new building for the press club and transform it into a modern and well-organized institution modeled on the National Press Club.

Newly elected General Secretary Md Alam Hossain thanked all members for electing him to the post.

He said the activities of the press club would be carried out through coordinated efforts, mutual respect and unity.

“Journalism is not merely a profession; it is a responsibility. Our main objective will be to courageously highlight the joys, sufferings, problems and prospects of the people of Rupganj through the mass media,” he said.
