BNP leaders’ nephew arrested in Dowarabazar while collecting extortion money

Police arrested a notorious nephew of BNP leaders while he was collecting extortion money from a businessman’s house on Thursday.
The arrested individual is Faisal Amin Jibon (24). He is the son of the late UP member Shamsul Alam of Boglabazar in Dowarabazar, Sunamganj, and the nephew (brother’s son) of Abdul Malek, a member of the convening committee of the Upazila BNP, and Jahangir Alam Mintu, a member of the convening committee of Boglabazar Union BNP.
Dowarabazar police sent him to district jail through the court after filing a case.
Earlier, police arrested him from the house of businessman Fakhr Uddin in Peshkargao village of Dowarabazar and brought him into police custody.
According to court sources and the complainant received on Thursday, businessman Fakhr Uddin, son of the late Amzad Ali Master from Peshkargao village in Dowarabazar, was threatened with the spread of several personal photos stored on a lost memory card on social media Facebook after a dispute was settled through arbitration. Following this, UP member Monirul Islam alias Nantu Member, son of the late Saktar Morol of Dharampur village in Boglabazar, and arrested Faisal Amin Jibon collected 7,000 taka in extortion money.
Then, on the instigation of the UP member, Faisal went to Fakhr Uddin’s house in Peshkargao village on Wednesday night to collect 50,000 taka in a second round of extortion. At that time, Fakhr and local villagers apprehended Faisal and handed him over to the police after giving him a sound beating.
Jahangir Alam Mintu, member of the convening committee of Boglabazar Union BNP and brother of the deceased elder brother of the arrested Faisal, claimed that he does not know Faisal.
Abdul Malek, member of the convening committee of Dowarabazar Upazila BNP and uncle of the arrested Faisal, admitted that Faisal is a family member but stated, “Faisal is disobedient to the family, doesn’t listen to anyone, so he must bear the responsibility for his crimes and wrongdoings.”
Dowarabazar Police Station OC Md. Zahidul Haque said, on Thursday, a case was filed by Fakhr Uddin accusing Faisal and his accomplice, UP member Monirul Islam alias Nantu Member, of extortion and demand for extortion money.
