BNP MP GM Siraj in Parliament: Husband, wife can divorce, but not with neighboring India
Staff Correspondent
Husband and wife can divorce, but the relationship with India as a neighbor cannot be divorced, said BNP MP from Bogura-5 constituency Golam Mohammad (GM) Siraj.
He said this while participating in the budget discussion for the fiscal year 2026-2027 on the 12th day of the second and first budget sessions of the 13th National Parliament on Monday.
Highlighting the depth of the relationship with India, GM Siraj said, our relationship between husband and wife can also be temporary, a divorce between husband and wife can occur. But since we are neighbors of India and Bangladesh, the relationship with this neighbor cannot be divorced. We can never deny our neighbor, neither India can, nor Bangladesh can.
Emphasizing the long-term friendship between the two countries, this BNP MP said, I will take some time to discuss the relations between India and Bangladesh. That is, we all want India-Bangladesh to maintain our friendship in a friendly and respectful manner. Because I believe that India is our neighbor. We also want our friendly relations between the two friends not to be temporary.
Highlighting the recent statement of the new Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, and the public reaction in this context, he said, we saw the country where the new Indian High Commissioner came. When he came, he spoke poetically about the friendship between Bangladesh and India. Trivedi said, we are under the same sky, the same wind. We need friendship. But what did we see? We saw the storm of controversy on Bangladesh's social media. We saw anti-India in various ways on social media or electronic media. But why? This is the question that needs to be asked.
Calling on the current government of India to stop the border crisis and drug smuggling, GM Siraj said, we want to know that today push-in is being translated into pushback in India's language. It must be stopped. We want to say, come on, win the hearts of the people. Let us establish a heart-to-heart relationship with the people of India, the people of India and the people of Bangladesh. We do not want anti-India or anti-Bangladesh. What do we want? We want to maintain a peaceful position. In that case, my humble request to the current government of India is that you please stop the push-in. Stop the push-in.
At the same time, another disease that is even more serious than push-in has overwhelmed us - drugs. This all-consuming drug is destroying our youth community, student community, all classes.
