The confusion has cleared over the appointment of new Deputy Commissioner in Sylhet.

Locals believe that the new Deputy Commissioner's joining may be stuck in various political or administrative complications.

Various speculations have started in various quarters about the joining of the new district administration. Additional District Magistrate Pinky Saha has been serving as the acting Deputy Commissioner in the routine work of welcoming ministers and MPs who have come to Sylhet for the past two weeks.

However, the issue surrounding which Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam became OSD is the case of the sealing of the door of the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA). Earlier, during the interim government, the then Deputy Commissioner Sher Mahbub Murad was withdrawn in the case of white stone looting and Sarwar Alam was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet. Soon after his appointment, he had a disagreement with a senior political leader of Sylhet on various issues and since then he has been involved in various disputes.

He was highly praised for organizing several programs. Most recently, he raised questions about the donation of thousands of crores of rupees to the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal in Sylhet and sealed three degs of the shrine under the leadership of the district administration. Three days later, on June 21, he was withdrawn and appointed as Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration. In the meantime, on June 28, Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Md. Reza Hasan was appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet.

Although the appointment of the new Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet was supposed to be made after being relieved from Comilla, the joining of the new Deputy Commissioner got stuck in the middle. It is worth mentioning that Additional District Magistrate Pinky Saha of Sylhet has been serving as the Acting Deputy Commissioner for the last 18 days.

After taking charge as the Acting Deputy Commissioner, he strictly instructed the UNO and AC Lands of the concerned upazila to take necessary action against sand and stone looters with professionalism. Since then, the local administration has taken action against sand and stone looters.

Recently, he has been receiving praise for conducting several programs to curb crime in Sylhet. People-friendly Acting Deputy Commissioner Pinky Saha's public welfare activities are expected to continue in the future as in the past.
