A construction worker died after falling from an under-construction building at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Md. Ariful Islam (40) involved in mosaic work at the university’s new library.

The incident happened at around 11:00 am while working at the site.

Later, some of his co-workers took him to the University's   medical center from  where the duty doctors transferred him to Enam Medical College Hospital.

He around at 5:30 pm breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Speaking to this matter, the construction company’s chief engineer, Mominul  Karim, said, “The construction work was temporarily halted but some workers remained on site. Around midday, I was informed that a worker had fallen from the 4th floor, likely due to a loss of balance.”

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said, “I came to know about the incident late last night.”

“We will conduct a thorough investigation involving all relevant parties,” he added.
