Botswana research delegation meets with GAU VC to explore future collaboration

In a significant move towards strengthening international research collaboration, the Vice-Chancellor of Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU), Prof  Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman, held a courtesy meeting and discussion session with a 26-member high-level research delegation from Botswana on Tuesday. 
 
The meeting, held at 11:00 AM in the university's AV Room, focused on fostering mutual cooperation in agricultural research and promoting stronger ties between the two nations. Welcoming the delegation, Professor Dr. Rahman presented an overview of the universitys key contributions to the advancement of Bangladeshs agriculture sector. He highlighted GAUs continued role as a center of excellence in agricultural research since its inception. Pro-VC Prof. Dr. M. Moynul Haque, Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad, Deans and directors from various faculties of the university were also present during the session.
 
 The meeting commenced with the screening of a dynamic documentary showcasing the rich history, achievements, and traditions of GAU. Following the presentation, the floor was opened for an interactive Q&A session, where participants from both sides actively engaged in meaningful exchanges.
 
 Questions raised were addressed collaboratively by both GAU and the Botswana delegation. In his closing remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Mustafizur Rahman said,  since its foundation, GAU has been committed to agricultural research excellence. This meeting paves the way for a new chapter of bilateral cooperation in research and technology exchange between Bangladesh and Botswana. He also cited examples of climate-resilient and high-performing crop varieties developed by the university, underlining GAUs innovation capacity in response to seasonal agricultural challenges. Omphile John Sehurutshe, Project Advisor to the President of Botswana and head of the visiting delegation, expressed admiration for the advancements and diversity in Bangladeshs agricultural research. We are inspired by Bangladeshs progress.
 
 Opportunities for joint research, technology transfer, and exchange programs for students and researchers with GAU are areas we are seriously considering, he said. The discussion further explored collaborative opportunities in climate change adaptation, sustainable agriculture, livestock development, and the innovation of agro-based technologies. Both sides expressed strong interest in launching joint initiatives in these critical areas.
 
 This high-level engagement signals the beginning of a promising partnership between Gazipur Agricultural University and Botswana, reinforcing the potential for robust cooperation in agricultural research and education.
