Contributions of Zia family to non-govt teachers most significant: Dulu

Natore Correspondent

BNP central leader and former minister Advocate M Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu stated that the Zia family has made the most significant contributions to non-government teachers.

Martyred President Ziaur Rahman was the first to introduce a 40% salary for teachers, which he later increased to 50%. In 1991, Begum Khaleda Zia raised it to 80%, and after being elected in 2006, she introduced 100% salary for teachers and staff. She also initiated stipends for girls to promote female education.

Dulu further said that following the 2024 student-public revolution against discrimination, which had sparked hopes for a fair election, a section’s conspiracy turned it into despair. However, BNP’s acting chairman Tariq Rahman, through a meeting with the chief advisor, resolved that uncertainty.

At the teachers’ gathering, Dulu added that BNP’s acting chairman Tariq Rahman clearly stated in his 31-point declaration that if BNP comes to power, the highest priority will be given to teachers’ salaries and allowances, and if necessary, the education system will be nationalized.

Dulu made these remarks as the chief guest at a teachers’ gathering organized by the District Secondary Teachers’ Association at  Natore District Council Auditorium on Saturday noon.

The event was chaired by Amjad Hossain, president of the Natore District Branch of the Secondary Teachers’ Association and headteacher of Natore Sugar Mills High School. Others who spoke included Natore District BNP convener Rahim Newaz, Member Secretary Asaduzzaman Asad, joint conveners Zillur Rahman Khan, Babul Chowdhury, Saiful Islam Aftab, Mostafizur Rahman Shahin, former convener Shahidul Islam Bacchu, former mayor of Natore Municipality Kazi Shah Alam, Emdadul Haq Al Mamun, president of Natore District Zia Parishad Ahmudul Haq Chowdhury Swapan, and teacher leaders Jannatul Ferdous, Rezaul Karim, Abdul Matin, Yusuf Ali, and Sajjad Hossain.

It  was moderated by  General Secretary, Md. Mofizur Rahman, Headteacher of Haybatpur Adarsha Girls’ High School.
