The farmers' dream of ripe paddy has been submerged due to sudden heavy rains for 7-8 days in Phulbari
The price of labor has risen, which has put farmers in trouble. Due to heavy rains, low-lying lands in various upazilas of the upazila have been submerged in water. As a result, they are forced to harvest paddy ahead of time by paying high prices for labor, while many are harvesting paddy with their own family members without hiring laborers at high prices. Many are taking the harvested paddy to a safe place by the side of the road in boats.
According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, this time, Bor rice has been cultivated on 10,250 hectares of land in the Upazila. Due to the continuous rain for almost a week, the water level has risen and about 10 hectares of rice land has been submerged under water. Of this, 6,125 hectares of rice land have been harvested.
Farmers said, we have cultivated paddy with great difficulty, but it has been submerged in rainwater just before harvesting. We are harvesting the ripe paddy by hiring laborers at high prices. Due to the water, we are taking it by boat to the road or to higher places. We are not even able to dry the paddy due to the problem of sunlight. We are in great danger with our paddy.
The upazila agricultural extension officer said that due to the rains in the past week, about 10 hectares of Boro paddy in the upazila have been submerged in water. We are advising them on how to harvest the paddy quickly when the rains subside.
Bring rice.
