Abdur Rahim Mia (95), the first mayor of Dohar Municipality and a respected political figure, has passed away due to old age complications (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un). He breathed his last on Wednesday morning at his residence in Dohar.

Abdur Rahim Mia served as the mayor of Dohar Municipality continuously from 2000 to 2022. During his 22-year tenure, he was known as an efficient administrator who served the people beyond party lines. Prior to that, he served for 20 years in the Joypara Union Parishad.

Widely respected for his people-centric and principled leadership, Abdur Rahim Mia earned the love and admiration of all. He was the son of the late Abdul Baki, a well-known businessman, from the Haji Bari of Joypara in Dohar.

He is survived by three sons, grandchildren, and a large number of well-wishers.

His first funeral prayer (janazah) was held at 4 PM on Wednesday at Joypara High School field, followed by a second janazah at the Dohar Municipality ground. He was later laid to rest in the family graveyard.

According to family sources, Abdur Rahim Mia was involved in BNP politics and served for a long time as the president of BNP in Dohar upazila.

His death has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. Prominent individuals including former Dhaka-1 MP and Jamuna Group Chairperson Advocate Salma Islam, Dhaka District BNP President Khandaker Abu Ashfaq, Executive Chairperson of Trinamool BNP Selima Antra Huda, and Dhaka-1 BNP-nominated candidate Barrister Nazrul Islam expressed deep condolences.

A Dohar Upazila BNP President Mesher Khan, Dhaka District Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary ABM Kamal Hossain, and other family members including his sons were also present.
