The government is giving maximum priority to primary healthcare to ensure that health services reach people at their doorsteps, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said on Thursday.
The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a workshop titled "National Health Protection Authority in Bangladesh: Design and Structural Aspects" held at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium in Dhaka. The workshop was organized by the Health Economics Unit under the Health Services Division.
Minister Hossain stated that extensive plans have been formulated to ensure comprehensive healthcare access across the country. Acknowledging the challenge of implementing all initiatives simultaneously, he noted that priority areas are being identified to roll out programs phase-by-phase through pilot projects.
Highlighting the need for systemic reform, the minister emphasized the swift implementation of the Health Protection Act and its operational frameworks.
Regarding women's healthcare, Minister Hossain underscored that steps must be taken to ensure pregnant women and mothers do not face harassment or distress at health centers.
Director General of the Health Economics Unit Dr. Md. Enamul Haque, along with senior ministry officials, attended the workshop.
