A human chain protest was held in Munshiganj demanding legal action against unethical activities by the police.
The protest was organized by the victim's family and local residents of Baghra in Srinagar Upazila. It took place at 10:00 AM on Monday in front of the District Commissioner’s Office.
During the hour-long protest, the victim’s family claimed that the truth behind the incident would come to light if police detained and interrogated Abir, an associate of Bikas. The protest, led by the victim Rahat’s mother Surbana, saw participation from more than a hundred men and women of Baghra area.
The protesters alleged that police demanded a bribe of one lakh taka to exclude Saudi expatriate Rahat’s name from the charge sheet. When the family failed to pay the amount, police deliberately included his name using a fabricated and baseless report, leading to devastation in Rahat’s life. The family claims they even appealed to the District Commissioner but received no resolution.
Speakers at the human chain said that Rahat was taken to the police station under the pretense of being a witness and was then falsely implicated in an arms case. Later, SI Tarek allegedly demanded one lakh taka and threatened to implicate him in pending cases if they spoke out.
They further alleged that due to the close ties between the local union member Nuruzzaman and the police, his nephew was released, while innocent people continued to be harassed. The protesters demanded that Abir be arrested and interrogated to expose the real culprits behind the arms case.
Through this human chain, the participants strongly condemned and protested against the unethical actions of the police.
