
ICU Unit for newborns inaugurated at N'ganj General Hospital

A four-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) dedicated to newborns has been inaugurated at Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital.
The inauguration took place on Wednesday(May 7), with Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia presiding over the event.
During his speech, Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Mia described the ICU as a groundbreaking step in ensuring the health and treatment of newborns. He emphasized that this unit would be considered a milestone for the healthcare sector of Narayanganj district.
He added, “Many mothers who come to government hospitals cannot afford the costs of private facilities. We have established this special care unit to bring smiles to their faces.”The Deputy Commissioner also mentioned ongoing discussions about launching a separate 10-bed ICU.
He confirmed that they are in talks with the Ministry of Health and are hopeful of opening the new ICU soon.Dr. AFM Mushfiqur Rahman, the Civil Surgeon of Narayanganj, expressed that with this new unit, newborn patients from Narayanganj and neighboring districts will no longer need to travel to the capital for treatment. This will make medical services more accessible and affordable, significantly reducing patient suffering.
The inauguration event was also attended by Alamgir Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) of Narayanganj, Dr. Zahidul Islam, Resident Medical Officer
(RMO) of Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital, along with other officials and staffof the hospital.
