
Illegal shrimp seized in joint operation by Coast Guard, Fisheries Department in Patuakhali

In a joint operation by the Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries in Tengra Khali of Patuakhali, illegal shrimp fry worth about Tk 4 crore 65 lakh were seized on Thursday
Coast Guard Headquarters Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid disclosed this information in a press release on Thursday morning.
The press release stated that based on secret information, at 4 am on Thursday, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Station Patuakhali and the Department of Fisheries in the area adjacent to the old airport at Tengra Khali under Patuakhali Sadar Police Station. During the operation, a suspicious truck traveling from Kuakata to Bagerhat was searched in that area and approximately 1 crore 55 lakh pieces of illegal shrimp fry worth around Tk 4 crore 65 lakh were seized. As the actual owner of the illegal fry could not be identified, no one was arrested. The detained truck driver was released after giving a bond.
Later, in the presence of the Upazila Fisheries Officer, the seized shrimp fry were released into the Lohalia River.
To maintain the country’s law and order situation, Bangladesh Coast Guard has kept a 24-hour patrol ongoing. As a result, the law and order situation in the coastal and riverside areas under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard has improved significantly. The Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future.
