Illegal teak wood worth Tk 3 lakh seized from truck in Raozan

A large amount of illegally transported teak wood has been seized by the Forest Department in Rauzan, Chattogram
on Sunday night on the Chattogram-Rangamati road in front of the Rauzan Dhalarmukh Station, under the jurisdiction of the Ichamati Range of the Forest Department’s 09th ward of Rauzan Municipality.
According to sources, under the leadership of Rauzan Dhalarmukh Station Officer S.M. Rezaul Islam, a truck (Chattogram Metro-D-11-2976) loaded with illegal teak wood was seized. A total of 312 pieces of teak wood measuring 282.44 cubic feet were found, with an estimated market value of approximately three lakh taka.
On Monday afternoon, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of the upazila, Angching Marma, visited the Dhalarmukh Station of the Forest Department. He said, “There was a tip-off that something other than wood might be hidden in the seized truck. On the UNO’s instructions, I was present during the unloading of the wood from the truck. Nothing other than wood was found.”
S.M. Rezaul Islam, Officer of the Dhalarmukh Station under the Ichamati Range of the Northern Forest Department, said, “The truck with illegal wood was seized on Sunday night. However, none of the individuals involved in the smuggling, including the driver, could be detained.”
