Dr. Asif Nazrul, Interim Government Adviser for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, said, “How were our people murdered and mutilated, and where is the justice for that? I want to make it clear: justice is moving forward. Under our government’s rule, the trials for the July genocide at the International Crimes Tribunal will be completed.”

He added that, in addition to the tribunal, the charge sheets for the cases filed nationwide— including Narayanganj over the July atrocities must be submitted by August 5, and that all cases must be swiftly resolved in the Special Tribunal.

“We were victorious in July because we all became one family. We must preserve that unity. Just as we united during the July uprising, we must now stand together against extortioners and plunderers. The administration will support us,” he said.

He spoke these words on Monday afternoon at the inauguration of the “July Martyrs’ Monument” in Narayanganj, held in memory of those martyred in the July uprising. Earlier, at Hajiganj in Narayanganj, five of the Interim Government’s advisors had unveiled the country’s first monument to the July martyrs beside the new road. Before the unveiling, the advisors offered floral tributes to the families of the martyrs and wounded, and exchanged greetings with them.

At the inauguration ceremony, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, and Water Resources, said, “With a clear purpose in mind, fifty-six people became martyrs here in Narayanganj. Through their sacrifice, we achieved a Bangladesh free from tyranny and inequality. Their families have endured great hardship. In their honor, this is the first martyrs’ monument erected in Narayanganj. Had they not stood fearless before gunmen, independence would not have come. They gave their lives for true democracy.”

Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor for Industries, Housing and Public Works, said, “Over the past fifteen-and-a-half years, many of us have faced oppression, enforced disappearances, and solitary confinement. The anti-inequality student movement on July 24 awakened the entire nation. You are the children of that fiery era. Whenever any force tries to dominate our country, the people will resist it.”

Also present at the monument’s unveiling were Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Advisor for Education, and Mohammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Advisor for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources. Families of the July martyrs and the wounded were in attendance, along with leaders from various political, social, and cultural organizations, members of civil society, and other distinguished guests. The advisors concluded the ceremony by planting trees beside the monument.
