
Kingpin of kidnapping ring arrested in Tungipara

In a late-night raid on Friday at around 1:30 AM, police arrested the alleged kingpin of a kidnapping ring, Tahin Sheikh, along with his associate Hamim alias Gedu, in the Westpara area of Gimadanga under Tungipara upazila in Gopalganj district.
The operation was conducted by a skilled police team led by Sub-Inspectors Monir Hasan and Nazmul, under the directive of Tungipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khorshed Alam.
During the arrest, Tahin and his associates attacked the police using locally-made weapons, seriously injuring Constable Kajol, who was later admitted to Tungipara 100-bed Hospital for treatment.
Police stated that the Tahin-led gang had been involved in various crimes, including kidnapping, extortion, and both physical and psychological abuse, across Gopalganj and nearby districts. Tahin has multiple criminal cases and five arrest warrants against him, while Gedu has four outstanding warrants.
Previously, Tahin had been arrested in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat district but resumed criminal activities after being released on bail.
OC Khorshed Alam said, “With Tahin’s arrest, a major figure in a kidnapping syndicate has been brought under the law. Legal proceedings against them are underway.”
Meanwhile, local residents have expressed satisfaction with the police operation and hope it will restore peace and security in the area.
