A cheque of Tk 27 lakh has been handed over to Dhaka University for the purpose of establishing the 'Bangladesh Law Association UK Trust Fund' on Wednesday at a function organized in the meeting room adjacent to the Vice-Chancellor's office,
Bangladesh Law Association UK President Muhammad Mujibur Rahman and General Secretary Mahmuda Chowdhury handed over the cheque to Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam.
The program was presided over by Dhaka University Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. In addition, Dean of the Faculty of Law Professor Dr. Mohammad Ikramul Haque, Chairman of the Law Department Prof Dr. Md. Touhidul Islam, Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed and concerned persons were present at the program.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam said, "The initiative taken by Bangladesh Law Association UK for the welfare of Dhaka University students is highly commendable. This trust fund will play an important role, especially for the welfare of physically or mentally disabled and indigent students."
He said that if Dhaka University alumni, well-wishers and various institutions and organizations stand by the poor students, their higher education opportunities will be further expanded.
Under this trust fund, every year, 15 students with physical or mental disabilities or indigent students from among the first year LLB (Hons) to LLM students studying regularly in the Law Department of Dhaka University will be provided scholarships. This scholarship program is scheduled to start from the next academic year 2026-2027.
