A joint operation team of RAB-8, Barishal and RAB-4, Mirpur Camp conducted a raid at 10:50 PM on September 3  in the Mazar Road area under Darus Salam Police Station of Dhaka metropolis and arrested the main accused of the sensational gang-rape case of Mehendiganj Police Station in Barishal district Mehedi Hasan (30), son of Nannu Dewan of Mehendiganj in  Barishal.

According to the details of the case, the arrested accused Mehedi Hasan (30) along with other accused persons, on July 10, 2023 at around 5:30 PM, forcibly gang-raped the victim (31) when she went to collect betel nuts in the betel nut garden on the north side of her homestead. At that time, the accused forcibly held her mouth and surrounded her from all sides before committing the crime. They also recorded the rape on their mobile phones and threatened that if the incident was disclosed to anyone, they would release the recorded video on the internet and kill her. Later, hearing the screams of the victim, her mother and sister arrived at the spot, at which point the accused fled the scene.

In connection with the incident, the victim herself filed a rape case with Mehendiganj Police Station in Barisal through the learned Women and Children Repression Prevention Court in Barishal. When the incident came to the attention of RAB-8, Barisal, they started shadow investigation and intelligence surveillance. Following this, RAB-8 and RAB-4 conducted a joint operation and succeeded in arresting the said accused.

Subsequently, the arrested accused was handed over to the police of Darus Salam Police Station in Dhaka metropolis.
