The 18th death anniversary of Faridpur's eminent fiction writer and poet of rebellion, Babu Faridi, was observed through an event organized by the Faridpur Shahitya Parishad. To mark the occasion, a memorial meeting was held on Monday evening at the "Shahitya Bhaban" in Faridpur.

Presided over by Faridpur Shahitya Parishad President Professor Altaf Hossain and conducted by General Secretary Mofiz Imam Menon, the memorial meeting featured distinguished poet and Bangla Academy Director Dr. Tapan Bagchi as the chief guest.

Highlighting various aspects of poet Babu Faridi's writings in his speech as the chief guest, Dr. Tapan Bagchi said, "Babu Faridi was not just an ordinary writer; he was an architect of social change. His stories and poems have always spoken for the exploited people and ignited the fire of rebellion against injustice and oppression. His sharp writings are immensely important for shaping the healthy mental faculties of current and future generations and enriching Bengali literature. His creations must be spread more widely among the youth."

In his address, Professor Debbrata Guha Debu, the only son of poet Babu Faridi, urged everyone to uphold the poet's creations and ideals by establishing a "Babu Faridi Smriti Sangsad."

Among others who participated in the discussions and poetry recitation were veteran journalist and writer Badiuzzaman Chowdhury Bhadu, politician A.F. Kaiyum Jangi, Faridpur Muslim Mission College Principal Abdullah Al Mamun, Faridpur Shahitya Parishad Vice-President Professor Abdul Hamid Molla, poet Babu Faridi's wife Krishna Guha, poet Shafiq Islam, poet Rehena Akhter Piya, poet Abdus Samad, poet Abdur Razzak Raja, and playwright M. Ahmed Nizam.

The memorial meeting drew a gathering of poets, writers, journalists, literature enthusiasts, and prominent local figures.
