Gazipur City Correspondent
A month-long action plan has been undertaken to make the road stretching from Government Women's College to July Chattar in Gazipur Metropolitan City free from traffic congestion and noise pollution, in line with the Honourable Prime Minister's vision. Under the plan, the designated road will be marked as a ‘Buffer Zone’, where the movement of battery-powered rickshaws and other unauthorized vehicles will be regulated.
A meeting was held with relevant stakeholders to discuss the initiative, chaired by Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan.
The meeting highlighted various decisions and action plans aimed at restoring discipline on the roads, reducing traffic congestion and controlling noise pollution.According to the action plan adopted at the meeting, battery-powered and pedal-driven rickshaws will not be allowed to operate within the designated Buffer Zone from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on all days except Fridays and Saturdays.
Gazipur City Corporation will issue separate authorizations for 105 auto-rickshaws each week. During a particular week, only auto-rickshaws of the designated color will be permitted to operate inside the Buffer Zone, while vehicles of the other three colors must remain outside the designated area.
Drivers of authorized auto-rickshaws operating within the Buffer Zone will not be allowed to use horns.
