No change has come in country, govt sabotaging reform process: Nahid Islam

Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP) and Chief Whip of the Opposition, has expressed his anger that although democracy, freedom of expression, non-discrimination and a sovereign foreign policy were supposed to be established in Bangladesh, achieved through a mass uprising, no positive changes are being seen in the country in the current situation.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a view-sharing meeting organized by the NCP at the 'Swapn Chhaya' Community Center in Joypurhat on Friday evening.
Highlighting the government and the current political situation, Nahid Islam complained, "Many people, including journalists, have been unjustly arrested, beaten and tortured for criticizing the government on social media and opposing the government. The government is trying to sabotage the entire reform process by forming a constitutional amendment committee.
Speaking about the rehabilitation of fascist forces and the recent labor movement, he also said,
"The fascist Awami League will return or be rehabilitated in December—this is not ordinary propaganda, but rather Delhi's propaganda to destabilize the country. However, there is no chance of the Awami League returning in December, although the government has been allowing the fascist Awami League to carry out its activities in various ways for the past eight months."
Regarding the labor unrest, he said, "Forming the wage board almost a week after the labor movement began was a kind of negligence on the part of the government, which has been exploited by various parties to attempt sabotage."
NCP Senior Joint Member Secretary Sarjis Alam, Joint Convener Ali Ahsan Jonayed, Organizing Secretary Imran Emon, Co-Organizing Secretary Shakib Mahadi, District NCP Convener Nurul Islam Runju and Member Secretary Ismail Hossain Hadi were also present at the said exchange of views meeting.
