Chief Whip of the National Parliament and Member of Parliament for Barguna-2, Nurul Islam Moni, stated on Sunday that there is no room for extortionists and land grabbers in Betagi, issuing a stern warning to law enforcement against showing leniency to criminals based on political identity.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a special view-exchange meeting on local law and order and regional development held at around 12:45 pm on Sunday in the Betagi Upazila Parishad conference room. The meeting was presided over by UNO  Muh. Saddam Hossain.

Addressing OC  of Betagi Police Station Md. Harun-or-Rashid directly, the Chief Whip directed him to take uncompromising action against extortion, land grabbing, narcotics, and juvenile gangs.

"If you face any issues regarding extortion, tell me directly. No criminal should be spared because of political identity," Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni said, emphasizing that police performance would be judged on their success in eradicating gang activities and extortion from the area.

The Chief Whip highlighted the necessity of administrative coordination between the upazila administration, police, and other law enforcement agencies to maintain public safety and enhance government services. He stressed transparency and accountability in executing development projects, ensuring that public resources effectively benefit citizens.

As part of his official visit to Betagi, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni also inaugurated and inspected several local development works, distributed financial assistance to Durga Puja mandaps, and formally inaugurated the newly constructed Municipal Library (Pourashava Pathagar) initiative by Betagi Pourashava.

Betagi Upazila level government officials, teachers, law enforcement officers, and journalists were present at the meeting.
