Obstruction, attack during construction of mosque boundary wall in Sreenagar

An incident of obstruction and attack occurred during the construction of a boundary wall on the premises of a Jame Mosque in Sreenagar.
The incident took place at around 7:30 PM on Tuesday in the village of Purba Nagorbhog under the Kukutia Union of the upazila.
Habibur Rahman (60), a resident of the village, was injured in the attack and received treatment at the Upazila Health Complex. He is the son of the late Abdul Majid Madbor of Nagorbhog. A written complaint has been filed at the local police station against Azizul Rahman Badol, Md. Hiron, Humayun, Ripon, Palash, Swapan, Mamun, Imran, Kashem, Joy, Faruk, Sagor, Antor, Delwar, Sami, and Pappu—residents of the same village.
According to the complaint, on Tuesday, local dignitaries gathered to measure and demarcate the land of Purba Nagorbhog Jame Mosque. Once the land was measured and boundaries marked, and the mediators had left, Azizul Rahman Badol and his associates allegedly attacked Habibur Rahman with traditional weapons, injuring him.
Habibur Rahman stated that Azizul Rahman Badol, a former advisor of the Kukutia Union Awami League, had been illegally occupying the mosque land for a long time using his political influence. When the community tried to resolve the dispute by measuring and marking the land, Azizul Rahman and his men allegedly attacked him out of longstanding enmity.
Another source revealed that a few months ago, tensions arose in the area due to disputes over forming the mosque committee, which led to the formation of two opposing groups. As Habibur Rahman played a key role in recovering the mosque land, the attack on him followed.
Md. Siddiqur Rahman, the president of the mosque committee, said that the assault was unjustified and intended to delay the construction of the mosque boundary wall.
When contacted, Azizul Rahman Badol hung up after learning it was a journalist calling. He did not respond to subsequent attempts to reach him.
Sreenagar Police Station OC Shakil Ahmed said appropriate action will be taken following an investigation.
