
One killed, child injured in Natore road mishap

A businessman named Shafi (70) was killed and a 9-year-old child injured in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a battery-powered van in Naldanga upazila of Natore on Wednesday morning in front of Kashiful Ulum Madrasa at Bashbhag Purbo Para.
The deceased, Shafi, was the son of Yanus Ali from Bashila village. The injured child, Tajim (09), is his nephew — the son of his brother-in-law.
According to police and local sources, Shafi and Tajim were returning home to Bashila village in a battery-operated van after selling onions at Thakur Laxmikul Haat. When they reached the front of Kashiful Ulum Madrasa, their van collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck. Shafi died on the spot, while Tajim was seriously injured and first taken to Natore Modern Sadar Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
OC of Naldanga Police Station, Rafiqul Islam, said, police rushed to the scene and seized the pickup truck. However, the driver and helper fled the scene. The deceased’s body has been handed over to the family, and a case has been filed in connection with the incident.
