Pabna Press Club : President Akhtaruzzaman, Secretary Zahurul

Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar (Jugantor) and Zahurul Islam (Kalbela) have been elected as President and Secretary in the biennial election of Pabna Press Club.

The Election Commission announced them as elected last night after the festive voting at the Press Club Auditorium from 3 pm to 6 pm on Friday . A total of 57 out of 62 voters exercised their right to vote in the election.

Advocate Mirza Azizur Rahman was the Chief Election Commissioner and Md. Ruhul Amin was the Election Commissioner in this election.

Election Commission sources said that Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar (Jugantor) was elected as President with a total of 26 votes. His closest rival Mirza Azad (PIP News Agency) received 23 votes. Zahurul Islam (Kalbela) was elected as Secretary with 29 votes. His closest rival was Kamal Ahmed Siddique (Focus Bangla) with 24 votes.

In addition, SM Alauddin (Naya Diganta) and Sifat Rahman Sanam (Ichamati) were elected as vice-presidents with 31 votes. Assistant editor Mokhlesur Rahman Biplob (Ichamati) was elected with 34 votes. His closest rival was Sarwar Ullas (Prothom Alo) with 21 votes. Abul Kalam Azad (R TV) was elected as finance editor with 34 votes. His closest rival was Kazi Morshed Babla (Bibrati) with 21 votes. Kalit Talukder (Jamuna TV) was elected as welfare editor with 32 votes. His closest rival was Syed Akhtaruzzaman Rumi (Dhaka Pratidin) with 24 votes. Imroz Khandaker Bappi (Gazi TV) was elected as sports editor with 37 votes. His closest rival is Mostafizur Rahman Russell (Ekattor TV) (18).

Earlier, Yad Ali Mridha Pavel (Daily Statement) was elected unopposed as the literary and cultural editor and Moniruzzaman Shipon (Daily Morning Touch) as the office editor. In addition, Shahin Rahman (Channel 24), Mizanur Rahman (Boishakhi), Abu Hasna Ayub (Ajaker Itihas), Arif Ahmed Siddiqui (Jay Jay Din), Rafiqul Islam Sweet (BSS), GK Sadi, Sushil Kumar Tarafdar were elected as the executive members.

Earlier, the Election Commission led by Advocate Mirza Azizur Rahman released the final list of candidates on the night of November 25. Against a total of 19 posts, two of the previous committee's two ex-officio members, President ABM Fazlur Rahman and Secretary Saikat Afroz Asad, were appointed as executive members, so 31 candidates were supposed to contest for 17 posts, but two were elected unopposed, leaving 31 candidates contesting for 15 posts. Although there was a panel named Mirza Azad and Zahurul Islam in the election, others contested as independents.
