Police unveil breakthrough in Keshabpur double murder case with two srrests

Jashore Correspondent

Jashore district police have successfully cracked the sensational double murder case involving a couple in Keshabpur upazila, arresting two primary suspects and recovering the weapon used in the crime.

The breakthrough was detailed in an official press release following the apprehension of the suspects, identified as Jasmine Begum (38), wife of Nur Islam Sardar and daughter of Khodar Ali Sardar, and Mostafa Kamal (45), son of the late Kesmat Sardar. Both reside in the Sardarpara area of Magurkhali village under Keshabpur upazila.

According to police, on October 31, 2026, at approximately 5:30 pm, local villagers discovered the semi-decomposed bodies of two unidentified individuals near an irrigation pump drainage point in a paddy field belonging to Prabhat Biswas in Brahmandanga village. Keshabpur police rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert and subsequently identified the victims as Alek Nur Islam and his wife, Majeda Khatun, residents of Magurkhali. Following the discovery, the couple’s daughter, Sabina Khatun, filed a murder case at the local police station.

Leveraging intelligence surveillance and concrete evidence, a specialized team from Keshabpur Police Station arrested prime suspect Jasmine Begum on November 2, leading to the subsequent capture of Mostafa Kamal and the recovery of the pair of scissors used in the homicide.

During preliminary police interrogation, Jasmine Begum provided a chilling account of the sequence of events. She revealed that she and victim Majeda both worked at the Akij Jute Mill in neighboring Abhaynagar upazila. As the mill remained closed on Friday, October 30, the two women went to the fields to cut grass in the morning after finishing household chores.

According to Jasmine’s statement, while heading to the fields where Alek Nur Islam was planting grass, she encountered Mostafa Kamal, with whom she had been involved in an illicit relationship for four to five months, as he was planting cabbage seedlings in his plot. The situation escalated when Majeda unexpectedly came upon them and called out Jasmine’s name.

To silence the discovery, Mostafa and Jasmine lured Alek and Majeda toward the edge of an enclosure under the pretext of gathering water spinach (kalmi shak). As the couple walked ahead near the Taltola embankment, Mostafa struck Alek under the armpit and on the head with a sharp cutting tool (pasni). Simultaneously, Jasmine strangled Majeda with her own veil (orna) near a banana grove.

Realizing Alek who suffered from physical disabilities was incapacitated but unable to escape, and noticing that Majeda was still breathing after strangulation, the perpetrators used a pair of scissors to inflict severe abdominal and leg wounds. Both victims were subsequently dragged and dumped into an old, abandoned irrigation pump pit, after which Mostafa placed a towel over Alek's body and washed the blood-stained scissors in adjacent enclosure waters.

Police confirmed that the weapon used in the killing has been recovered and that legal proceedings against the arrested suspects are actively underway.
