Potential gas reserve spotted in Chunarughat

A potential underground natural gas reserve has been spotted at Paschim Barabda village under Mirashi union in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj, sparking widespread enthusiasm and curiosity among local residents.
Local resident Mizanur Rahman said that gas-like substance emissions were recently observed seeping out of the ground in a specific area of the village. Upon receiving the information, officials and experts from the Jalalabad Gas authorities visited the spot to inspect the phenomenon and have initiated preliminary exploration activities to verify the feasibility of the reserve.
As news of the potential gas source spread, large crowds from neighboring areas began gathering at the site to witness the phenomenon. Manik Miah, a former local Union Parishad (UP) member, noted that the discovery has generated immense optimism among the villagers, who believe that a confirmed gas field could significantly boost the region's economic development and generate employment opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Habiganj office of Jalalabad Gas authorities confirmed that while initial signs of gas are present, final conclusions and subsequent steps will depend strictly on the progress of the ongoing investigation and scientific test results. Officials urged the public to remain patient until the exploration process is fully completed.
