Soil-laden truck seized in UNO's operation in Goalando

Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Md. Nahidur Rahman has seized a drum truck for cutting soil from cropland and transporting it to various places, including brick kilns, in Chhota Bhakla Union of Goalando Upazila of Rajbari district on Saturday night.
The soil-carrying drum truck was seized from the Hauli Keutil area of Chhota Bhakla Union, and the battery of the excavator used for cutting soil was seized.
In this regard, the UNO said that in order to prevent illegal extraction of soil from agricultural land without permission and to ensure the safety of life and property on the road and prevent damage to the road, a soil-carrying drum truck has been seized. At that time, the driver abandoned the truck and fled. Later, the truck was kept next to the upazila quarter. The owner of the seized truck will be fined a large amount of money under the Sand and Soil Management Act and they will be warned not to cut and sell soil from any land pond without obtaining permission from the upazila administration.
He further said that no soil or sand can be cut and sold from different areas of the upazila day or night. The upazila administration has always kept a strict vigil on this matter. Such campaigns will continue in the public interest.
Meanwhile, soil cutting festivals are going on in various places in the upazila from evening to dawn instead of during the day. The local administration is not stopping the soil cutting despite imposing jail fines and confiscating trucks and buckets filled with soil.
Locals claimed that influential people are behind these works. Due to this destruction year after year, the environment is being endangered, biodiversity is being destroyed, and field crops are decreasing. On the other hand, the roads are being broken due to the movement of heavy vehicles filled with soil on rural roads. The common people are suffering.
