Academic and administrative activities at the Kalukhali Government College in Rajbari have been hit hard by an acute shortage of teachers and crucial staff, which has also left the institution's assets worth crores of taka unprotected.

Despite these mounting adversities, the college achieved the distinction of being named the best college at the district level this year. Currently, more than 2,000 students are enrolled at the institution, but the overall educational environment faces ongoing threats due to the lack of necessary manpower.

College sources said that 11 important positions have been lying vacant for a long time. Out of nine sanctioned posts for assistant professors, five remain vacant with only four currently working, while two lecturer posts out of 30 are also vacant. The institution has also been operating without a librarian, an office assistant, and two security guards. Furthermore, the computer lab assistant reportedly absconded abroad without formally resigning from his post, causing vital IT and administrative tasks at the college to grind to a halt.

The prolonged absence of security personnel has left state assets worth crores of taka heavily exposed to security risks. Established in 1988 on the scenic banks of the Chandana river, the college introduced its degree section in 2001 and was subsequently nationalised in 2018. Despite these logistical constraints and staffing deficits, the students of the institution have consistently shown outstanding performances in both academics and sports, leading to its district-level recognition this year.

The success of the institution is largely credited to its capable leadership, with the principal of Kalukhali Government College, Professor Mohammad Abdul Hamid Khan, being selected as the best head of institution at the district level this year. Additionally, three other teachers from the college secured the best teacher awards in the district in their respective categories.

Local residents, conscious citizens, and students have strongly urged the authorities concerned to immediately appoint teachers and employees to the vacant posts to sustain the college's streak of success and uphold the quality of education.
