Strength of Dhaka University lies in moving forward together: DU VC Dr Niaz Khan

DU Correspondent

Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor  of Dhaka University, said that students must remember that our strength does not lie in driving vehicles recklessly on the road, showing off, or engaging in fights.

Our strength lies in moving forward together with everyone. We want to walk unitedly, hand in hand, with all—farmers, laborers, schools, colleges, madrasas, temples, and all government and private universities.

He said these  in his speech as the chief guest at the inauguration of the program titled “Propaganda ‘July’: Beyond Seen and Unseen” were held on Thursday, in the Department of Sociology at Dhaka University on the occasion of the first anniversary of the historic July mass uprising.

The program included seminars, reminiscences, essay competitions, discussion meetings, exhibitions, and cultural performances.

The seminar was presided over by the acting chairperson of the Sociology Department, Prof Dr. Fatema Rezina Iqbal. Prof Salma Akter and Dr. Samina Lutfa of the department presented essays. Prof Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and prof of the International Relations Department of Dhaka University, participated in the discussion.

VC Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan said that many people contributed to achieving today’s new Bangladesh. When Dhaka University calls, everyone from society comes forward. Therefore, we must also stand beside society.

It is very important to express gratitude towards people. We cannot fully repay the debt of the July fighters. However, to repay some responsibility and to honor them, the university is continuously organizing several programs. Beyond formalities, these initiatives must be sustained on various platforms. He called upon everyone to work unitedly to improve the relationship between teachers and students.

An essay competition was organized in two groups. The award-winning students in the competition were: Group A: Tanvir Ahmed Rifaat (1st), Tanvir Wahed Khan and Md. Atik Shahriar (joint 2nd), Gias Uddin and Azmain Farhin (joint 3rd), Group B: Mamunur Rashid (1st), Mujahidul Islam (2nd), and Jannatul Ferdous (3rd). In the second part of the event, an entertaining cultural program was presented.
