The Amar Ekushey Hall administration of Dhaka University has donated Tk 20 lakh to increase the capital of the Amar Ekushey Hall Trust Fund.
This amount was collected from the internal sources of the hall. On behalf of the hall administration, the hall provost Professor Dr. Istiaque M. Syed formally handed over the donation cheque to the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan on Wednesday.
Present at the event were Dhaka University Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, residential teachers of the hall, and relevant administrative officials.
It is to be noted that this trust fund was established on 22 October 2007 with a capital of 15 lakh taka from the own fund of Amar Ekushey Hall. Later, at various stages, the fund was enriched. With the current donation, the total amount deposited in the trust fund has stood at 40 lakh taka.
According to the rules of the trust fund, scholarships are awarded every year to meritorious students of the hall from the dividends of the deposited capital. Students of the second, third, and fourth year honors classes of the hall can apply for the scholarship. In the primary screening, the results of the previous year examinations will be taken into consideration. Any student who has taken re-admission will not be considered eligible for the scholarship.
The number of scholarships and other rules will be determined by the scholarship sub-committee. At least one student from each department will be selected for the scholarship. However, if there is no application from any department or no eligible applicant is found, it will be transferable to students of other departments.
