A symbolic marathon competition was held in Satkhira organized by the District Administration to mark the Student-People’s July-August Uprising Day.
On Friday morning, as part of the ‘July Reawakening’ event series, the marathon started in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, passed through Khulna Road intersection and Narikeltala intersection, and concluded at the tennis ground adjacent to the District Stadium, where prizes were distributed.
The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Mostak Ahmed. Among the speakers were District Police Superintendent Md. Monirul Islam, District Jamaat Ameer Principal Shahidul Islam Mukul, District BNP Member Secretary Abu Zahid Dabul, Convenor of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (Satkhira) Arafat Hossain, former Member Secretary Sohel Mahadin, spokesperson Mohini Tabassum, and Shaheed Asif Hasan’s brother Rakib Hasan.
Also present at the event were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bishnupada Pal, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shoaib Ahmad, International FIFA Referee Tayyab Hasan Babu, Assistant Secretary of District Jamaat Lecturer Omar Faruq, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Satkhira Agriculturist Saiful Islam, Deputy Director of Youth Development Department Satkhira Sanjit Kumar, District Information Officer Jaharul Islam Tutul, District Sports Officer Mahbubur Rahman, along with various government officials, family members of the martyrs and injured, members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and journalists from various electronic and print media outlets.
Prior to the prize distribution ceremony, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of the July martyrs.
The event was hosted by Md. Moniruzzaman, Senior Assistant of the District Information Office.
